Learn Fusion / Modern Blues: a blend of blues, swing and tango on slow modern music
Whether you call it Modern Blues, Fusion Blues, or just Blues – it’s all about exploring the beauty of this expressive dance.
Modern Blues is a slow, smooth dance that focuses on partnership, creativity and body movement. We don’t worry too much about steps or footwork – it’s about feeling the music, staying grounded, and dancing in a close hold.
Rooted in traditional blues but influenced by modern jive, tango, and other styles, Modern Blues preserves key blues elements like grounding, poly-centric movement, improvisation, active tension, and a focus on practice over rigid rules. However, it is primarily danced to slow, modern music rather than traditional blues.
We dance socially at our Swing’n Smooth and AcouSwing parties and travel to international events and competitions each year.
